Born in Wisconsin, Darrell Wayne Lukas has won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Trainer a total of four times. In 1999, his Charismatic came within a furlong of winning the US Triple Crown.
Lukas has been inducted into several halls of fame, including the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in New York and, in March 2007, both the American Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse Halls of Fame.

Robert “Bobby” J. Frankel has trained four Breeders’ Cup winners, including the Breeders’ Cup Classic winner, Ghostzapper, who was voted the 2004 Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year. His horses have also won the Grade 1 Pacific Classic a record of six times. Other Grade 1 victories have included the Humana Distaff, Ogden Phipps Handicap, Belmont Stakes, the Canadian Queen’s Plate and the Santa Anita Handicap (twice, with Milwaukee Brew).
Frankel was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1995.

Claude R. “Shug” McGaughey started training in 1979. Since then, his horses have won more than 240 graded stakes races. In 1988, he won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Trainer in the United States, and in 2004, he was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.
As a top Breeders’ Cup trainer, McGaughey’s victories have included two wins each in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies and the Breeders’ Cup Mile (both times with Lure), and three wins in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (in 1988 with Personal Ensign, in 1995 with Inside Information and in 2005 with Pleasant Home). He has also trained winners of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
William I. Mott

William I. “Bill” Mott earned the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Trainer in both 1995 and 1996. In 1998, he was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame at the age of 45, making him the youngest trainer ever inducted.
Probably remembered as the top horse trained by Mott is Cigar - voted Eclipse Horse of the Year and champion older horse in 1995 and 1996, after winning a record 16 straight races. Mott also trained the champion title-winners Ajina, Escena, Paradise Creek, and Theatrical.

André Fabre is a French thoroughbred trainer who has retained the title of champion trainer in France for a full 19 years. He can boast a long list of wins worldwide, and was responsible for training two horses who ranked number 1 in the world - Hurricane Run (2005) and Manduro (2007).
