The Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint is one of the latest additions to the Breeders’ Cup meeting. Run over a distance of 6.5 furlongs, the Breeders’ Cup Sprint is a weight-for-age handicap open to 3 year old and above thoroughbreds. The race is yet to be classified.

The race distance in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint is subject to change, with several North American racecourses unable to accommodate turf sprints over distances greater than 5 furlongs.

The Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint has strong appeal for European trainers accustomed to sprinting their horses over turf. In 2009 the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint will award a prize fund of $1 million.
