Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint

The Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint was introduced to the Breeders’ Cup meeting in 2007.
This grade 1 race is a weight-for-age handicap open to fillies and mares over the age of 3. Entries in the race run over a distance of 7 furlongs on a dirt track. The fact that the race is run over dirt means it is of limited appeal to European trainers, and is instead targeted by major American stables.
In 2009 the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint will offer a prize fund of $1 million.
