Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile

The Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile is a grade 1 race for thoroughbred colts and fillies run during the course of the annual Breeders’ Cup meeting.

First run in 2007, the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile is open to thoroughbreds over the age of 3, and is run over 8 furlongs on a dirt or synthetic track.

The Breeders’ Cup Dirt mile is a major target of North American trainers at the Breeders’ Cup, and is yet to be won by a European thoroughbred. In 2009 the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile will pay out a prize fund of $1 million.

2008 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile

Vladimir Cerin’s Albertus Maximus took top honours at the second running of the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. Beating Rebellion and Two Step Salsa in a field of 12 runners. In winning the race, Albertus Maximus beat the previous record race-winning time by a whopping 6 seconds.
